There are a few daily necessities in my life… drinking coffee & checking in with @jo_lorenz‘s Instagram feed. I mean talk about priorities! Oh-so-stunning mama Jo, sure knows how to make a swoon worthy IG feed. She is the digital content creator queen, she oozes style & she is fabulously hilarious! For all things fashion, family, lifestyle and travel be sure to check out her website. Full disclosure if you are not already following Jo, I suggest making a cup of tea/coffee or having a wine, and then putting a few hours aside so you can scroll (ahem stalk) her STUNNING feed and website! (You can thank me later).
Thanks for hanging out with us here at The Merge Journal! Jo we just love you… and just quietly can we come along to your dinner party ploise? Emmy Xx
Jo, Let’s start things easy, and simple …
What did you have for breakfast this morning?
Two poached eggs with avocado on sourdough, with a huge cup of black coffee. Eggs and coffee are pretty much my best pals.
Most enjoyed Winter and Summer beverages?
Winter: mostly red wine, followed by red wine. Maybe a little red wine to go with it. Summer: I can always handle a glass of champagne – although sometimes a girl just needs a cold beer.
What three things do you take to your desert island (unfortunately George Clooney isn’t available)?
Firstly, why is George not available?! . . . but moving on, I take: tweezers (out of control crazy scientist eyebrows); the Genie from Aladdin; and my beautiful little family (perhaps I should have written it in the reverse order)
Describe your style …
Reasonably minimalist, with a hint of classic traditional. Sounds like a shitty radio station.
Holiday destination of choice?
So many great places we’ve already been – so many more still on the list! One of the favourite holidays I’ve ever had was in Greece with my husband (then boyfriend/fiance). He proposed at the Acropolis (perfection!), then we went on to the Islands of Paros and Santorini. Skies were blue, waters were warm, skin was tanned, and I was permanently eating some kind of seafood. Bliss!
One of the places on the immediate list for us is Sri Lanka. We are so keen to take the boys there and see the Ceylon Tea Trail. And eat curries non-stop, obvs . . .
Ok, let’s step it up a little …
How do you chill out?
On an ideal day, I put some old school hip hop on the decks, pour myself a drink and float in a body of water (my kids, Harry and Jude, are developing a fine appreciation for NWA and Biggie). On a more regular basis/day, I have a loooooong shower and hope no small human bursts in to tell me about their bumped head.
Something you can’t live without?
My family (and maybe coffee)
You have a dinner party and can invite three people dead or alive, who’s attending? … and what signature dish do you cook for them? More importantly, does it involve dessert?
Can I please have four?! I’ll take that as a yes. So, Ricky Gervais, Rosa Parks, Chelsea Handler and Dusty Bottoms from The Three Amigos. For starters, we have salmon and crab roulade with a glass of champagne. Next up is crispy duck confit, served with lentilles du Puy on a bed of creamy mashed potato, washed down with a big glass of Aussie Pinot. And for dessert we pretty much just have more wine while Dusty serenades us on his Mexican vihuela.
What is your favourite thing about Motherhood?
Watching these perfect little babies turn into real live people! Every day they both develop their personalities each more and it’s such a privilege to watch it happen.
When you jump on Instagram, which accounts do you look at no matter what?
My husband’s account (@wefuckinghatedonaldtrump), to catch the news of the day; @celestebarber, for keeping it real; @unconditionalmagazine – a truly beautiful publication produced out of NY, by women and for women – to feed my soul; and my good friend Emma’s account (@emma_lauren) for a daily dose of perfect, feminine styling.
Are you afraid of anything? … we promise we won’t use this against you. Maybe.
Rats. Truly, genuinely not okay with them.
Favourite childhood memory?
So, so many. I truly have the best parents and sister in the world. Lunching down at Balmoral Beach (Sydney, Australia) in summer will always be top of the list. Vitamin D, salty skin, eating crinkle cut hot chips. YES!!
What are your non-negotiable health and beauty routines?
Health-wise, I live almost dairy-free and I find this is the best thing for my own body. I also try and eat what the boys eat as much as I can, so learning to make these wholesome recipes for all of us is always fun! Beauty-wise, I am a huge fan of Aesop, Phenome and RMS Beauty.
Oh, these are too easy? Ok … let’s get personal
What does self care mean to you?
Taking time to give yourself a break. Ten minutes in a hot shower, an hour getting a professional massage, three minutes drinking your coffee without having to talk to anyone else! – whatever you can manage in your day. But a stressed-out Mum doesn’t help anyone.
Leap into the future – describe to us how it looks …
My husbandito and I are meeting our grown-boys for lunch in Paris. They’re now both 6 foot 4 and taking time out from Uni for a holiday with Mum and Dad. I look amazing for my age and am now fluent in five languages.
Inspiration; what makes you go chick chick boom?
Uniqueness, good humour and confidence.
What makes you wet-your-pants happy?
Planning a family vacation in a sun-and-sea-focussed destination. That and watching the original UK ‘The Office’. Will it ever not be funny!??!
Do you live by a life motto? If so, do share …
“Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite – and furthermore, always carry a small snake.” (WC Fields)
Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to hear …
I listen almost exclusively to gangsta rap.
and finally …
What’s next for you?
Coming up, I have a lot more family and travel related posts and features on my website (www.jolorenz.com) – yet most importantly, I plan to spend as much time as possible just hanging with Harry and Jude and enjoying their amazingness!
