Ok. We’re just going to put this out there. All four of us mamas have had a HUGE crush on the beautiful Amy, for what feels like forever. And when she jumped onto our screens with that birth video, well, we soon amped up our ‘crush’ to full on ‘love affair’. Amy is mama to three divine little beings, and a hypnobirthing teacher and birth doula, founding Earthbound Babies. She has recently moved her family from Perth over to the Byron Bay hinterland, and we couldn’t be happier. Now living that little bit closer, we hope to meet in person one day soon, so we can goo and gaa over her beautiful children, and her gorgeous smile. Did we mention her husband plays guitar and can sing? Yes, you can officially start crushing now too. Read on to find out more about this amazing mama …
Let’s start things easy, and simple …
What did you have for breakfast this morning?
Muesli with coconut yoghurt and strawberries.
Most enjoyed Winter and Summer beverages?
All day long I’ll sip on a (most of the time, cold) French Earl Grey Tea – it’s the English gene in me. And of course, wine – something that I never really appreciated until I had my third child.
What three things do you take to your desert island (unfortunately George Clooney isn’t available)?
My husband, kids and dog. Corny I know but they are my whole world.
Describe your style …
Simple, classic and minimalistic.
Holiday destination of choice?
Definitely Bali although I am excited about exploring new places now that we live on the East coast. Hawaii is up there on the top of my list.
Ok, let’s step it up a little …
How do you chill out?
To be honest, I rarely chill out. I am someone that wants to be constantly ticking jobs off my to-do-list. But when I do relax, I love being outside in the sunshine with a cup of tea in my hand.
Something you can’t live without?
You have a dinner party and can invite three people dead or alive, who’s attending? …and what signature dish do you cook for them? More importantly, does it involve dessert?
The three people I would invite would be Ina May Gaskin (the mother of authentic midwifery), Michel Odent (a French natural thinking obstetrician) and Robbie Williams (please don’t judge – there is just something about him which won’t let me get over my teenage crush). Cooking is definitely not my speciality. To save myself the embarrassment of having to serve them my go to dishes of chicken fillet and salad or gluten free pesto pasta, I would probably make up a little white lie about my gas top being broken and would take them to the amazing Japanese restaurant we have around the corner here in Federal. I am not really a dessert girl. Dinner with wine is enough for me.
What is your favourite thing about Motherhood?
I have loved watching my babies grow and develop their own little personalities. I seem to have three very different children and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them. There are so many beautiful things to love about all the ages but I have to say, the baby stage is definitely my favourite. Give me all the babies.
When you jump on Instagram, which accounts do you look at no matter what?
Lately it’s been the accounts of all my friend’s back in Perth as I am missing them so much. Some other go to accounts of mine are The Gray Gang, Loni Jane, Yoli & Otis, Tribe de Mama, The Empowered Birth Project and Carriage House Birth.
Are you afraid of anything? … we promise we won’t use this against you. Maybe.
Birds. I must have been attacked or something when I was younger because those things scare the bejesus out of me.
Favourite childhood memory?
Would be walking with my family to the deli every Saturday night to get an early copy of the Sunday paper and 50 cents worth of lollies. Isn’t it funny how the smallest things can leave such a big impact on our memory.
What are your non-negotiable health and beauty routines?
Health wise I am pretty strict with my family eating a gluten free and (almost) dairy free diet. Having fixed my daughter’s health issues this way, we’ve all made the change and feel so much better for it. Beauty wise I don’t have any fancy routines other than I must cleanse my face every night before bed. I can’t even remember the last time I went without doing this.
Oh, these are too easy? Ok … let’s get personal.
What does self care mean to you?
Alone time. I am an introvert so I need time by myself to refresh. I haven’t got much of this lately but am looking forward to establishing a good routine now that we are in our new home.
Leap into the future – describe to us how it looks …
it would be us owning our own home here in the Byron Hinterlands. One with lots of acreage and space to grow our own food and raise animals on. My husband would be running a small little café and as all three of my babies will be at school by then, I will be working full time on my birthing business and also studying naturopathy on the side too.
Inspiration; what makes you go chick chick boom?
Birthing. I am a serious birth nerd and every time I see a baby being born I get so inspired to continue my work as a HypnoBirthing Practitioner and Birth Doula. The birthing world has such a long way to go in terms of allowing women to trust their own ability to birth so education and support is definitely the key.
What makes you wet-your-pants happy?
My new home in the Byron Bay Hinterlands. I still cannot believe that we are living here. It really is a little slice of paradise.
Do you live by a life motto? If so, do share …
to just be kind to everyone. We live in such a weird world at the moment where people are so quick to judge and attack if somebody thinks or acts differently to them. I believe that everyone is entitled to live their life the way they want and to make the decisions that they feel are best for them and their little family. If this doesn’t gel with the way you live your life and you don’t have anything nice to say to them, then don’t bother saying it at all.
Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to hear …
I used to be a pilot. I flew gliders solo when I was 15 and started studying aviation at university when I first left school. Unfortunately I didn’t end up pursuing this career because of how costly it was and that is probably one of my biggest regrets to date.
and finally …
What’s next for you?
Well my little family and I have just made the big treechange over from Perth to Eureka in the Byron Bay Hinterlands. I can’t wait to find our feet and watch the kids blossom as they settle into their new life in the country. I am also looking forward to getting back into my birthing work after a hectic six months off. We have so much to look forward to here. The future is looking very exciting!
