Today’s mama crush is the ever beautiful Julie (based in America), who is mama to gorgeous babe Nina, and wifey to a very talented ‘baby balancing on one hand pic’ husband. Her Instagram feed is an almost magical place where grocery aisles come alive (and look pretty!) with divine shots of her little Nina helping her choose items; and where library shelves are celebrated. She makes it feel like you’re there right beside her gorgeous little family, living everyday life with them. Whether it’s picnics in the parks, walks in nature, napping on the couch, or playroom tea parties, life in the Mishakov family looks sweet and inviting. Especially that divine baby swing in their living room! We asked Julie our fave mama crush questions, and delved into her charming world …
Let’s start things easy, and simple …
What did you have for breakfast this morning?
Hot wheat cereal.
Most enjoyed Winter and Summer beverages?
Tea all year round. I also love making fresh kompot in the summer time.
What three things do you take to your desert island (unfortunately George Clooney isn’t available)?
If I was going solo; I’d take a warm blanket, sunglasses, and a solar powered music player.
Describe your style …
My personal style is more casual, I like to be comfortable in whatever I’m in. Keep in mind that comfortable doesn’t have to be boring
Holiday destination of choice?
New Zealand. Someone take me there, please!
Ok, let’s step it up a little …
How do you chill out?
I like to go for a drive with music blaring and no one else in the car.
Something you can’t live without?
How boring would life be without music?!
You have a dinner party and can invite three people dead or alive, who’s attending? …and what signature dish do you cook for them? More importantly, does it involve dessert?
I would invite my two best friends who moved to California and Daniel Craig (because they love him). Any James Bond fans? We would have a lamb shank platter with a side sauce, potatoes, and several different salads. I don’t like to bake, but there would definitely be cake!
What is your favourite thing about Motherhood?
The unconditional love.
When you jump on Instagram, which accounts do you look at no matter what?
I love following @humansofny. Always so inspiring!
Are you afraid of anything? (we promise we won’t use this against you. Maybe)
Favourite childhood memory?
Swinging on a swing my dad made us in Russia. It hung from a beautiful giant tree in front of our house. It’s the last memory I have of Russia before we moved to the states.
What are your non-negotiable health and beauty routines?
We try to keep our bodies moving and balance everything we eat. We steer clear of junk food. I think the biggest thing for us is if we don’t buy it, we don’t eat it. Beauty wise, I wash my face morning and night (no exceptions). I have a dermatologist and an esthetician I see for my skincare. I do face masks once a week, use a natural skincare line and mineral makeup. I’m also big on sunscreen. Protect your skin, people!
Oh, these are too easy? Ok … let’s get personal.
What does self care mean to you?
Self care for me is doing something that helps me de-stress and unwind. It may be a little getaway, a pedicure, or just taking a nap.
Leap into the future – describe to us how it looks …
Owning a cozy little home in the country. Where we throw dinner parties on our patio, where our kids get to grow up, and where my husband and I get to grow old.
Inspiration; what makes you go chick chick boom?
Everyday life inspires me. Church, Nina’s music class, my husband’s patience with parenting, the list goes on.
What makes you wet-your-pants happy?
Watching my husband with my daughter gives me all the feels and reminds me how blessed I really am. In other words, our family time makes me the most happiest.
Do you live by a life motto? If so, do share …
Stop and smell the roses.
Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to hear …
I played the violin for eight years.
and finally …
What’s next for you?
I’ve been tossing around the idea of starting a blog, but it’s still a big question mark.
