Jules is a new mum to a divine little girl named Emmison. She’s a no nonsense kinda mama. I fell in love with her because she is so open about motherhood and all that it entails. She shares her life on Instagram (@newmumstheword) from a very honest perspective, and isn’t afraid to show you a little baby puke. My mornings generally start with a giggle over her hilarious witty captions and funny faces. If you haven’t checked her out (and you’re currently parenting a small child), you probably should. You can thank me later. Here’s her answering, in her very honest way, our fave 20 questions:
Let’s start things easy, and simple …
1. What did you have for breakfast this morning?
Banana Smoothie that my husband made. I only drank half of it as the banana was too far gone despite him telling me it tasted AMAZING.
2. Most enjoyed Winter and Summer beverages?
Absolutely love mulled wine in winter! Champagne in summer for sure. I also live on sparkling water with fresh lime in both seasons (seriously just hook up an IV).
3. What three things do you take to your desert island (unfortunately George Clooney isn’t available)?
Well at the moment if I was to say Emmi that would mean I use up my other two with nappies and my breast pump. That doesn’t sound very relaxing. I would take the standard items like my phone and water. My third would have to be Panadol. Too much time in the sun gives me a headache!
4. Describe your style …
I feel like I would have great style if I had loads of money. At the moment I am definitely mummy practical! If that is even a style? (urgh). My style icons are Olivia Palermo (Although if I wore some of it I would look like a bit of a dick) and Blake Lively (I am not sure if I want to be her or be on her).
5. Holiday destination of choice?
New York City – I was lucky enough to fly there a lot with work and I love the buzz you get. The people, the food and the sights.
Ok, let’s step it up a little …
6. How do you chill out?
Comfort food, glass of wine and trash TV. BLISS.
7. Something you can’t live without?
My beautiful daughter and my lovely husband. Family is everything.
8. You have a dinner party and can invite three people dead or alive, who’s attending?
Ellen DeGeneres (so I can ask her if she can adopt me), Ed Sheeran (I am madly in love with him and he would provide the entertainment) and I would want to invite someone that is lonely. It breaks my heart to think of people who have no family or friends. I would do anything I can to help people who are without.
9. …and what signature dish do you cook for them? More importantly, does it involve dessert?
That would be a tough one cause Ellen is Vegan! I would probably have to do a dahl curry. I think I would have to get someone in to make us an amazing dessert. Whilst I can make desserts – it can be hit and miss!
10. When you jump on Instagram, which accounts do you look at no matter what?
@jetsetmumma – I want to run away with her. She is aware of this. Funniest person I have ever come across. @themodernmumma – Down to earth and absolutely lovely. @thesweetmumlife – Such a lovely soul and little Lila is devine. @zotheysay – her wit and humour is like no other. I feel like we have a very similar personality. @daniloxton – hilarious but also fills her little squares with gorgeous pictures. Her recent blog piece is a must read! @houseofwhite_ – she is sweet, funny, and we get each other. @mrsplato – a beautiful feed, her home, her children and her lovely nature. @themumdiaries_ – literally one of my very first followers and online dating relationships. @themergejournal – DUH! What an amazing group of women.
11. Are you afraid of anything? (we promise we won’t use this against you. Maybe)
I am afraid of lots of things. I can’t watch scary movies, I get frightened someone is in the house, I am afraid of bridges, I am afraid of something happening to my husband and worst of all I am afraid of what people think of me.
12. Favourite childhood memory?
I had a best friend when I was 10 and we did everything together. We were like two peas in a pod. Growing up within my household as an only child I would get lonely and having her to have sleepovers with was awesome. We would watch Father of the Bride on re run, go to the lolly shop and make carbonara for dinner. We are still in touch now. Loved the good old days of planning our weekends without a care in the world.
13. What are your non negotiable health and beauty routines?
Insert grimaced face here… I don’t really have any (shock horror). I would never go to bed with my make up on, and I HAVE to shower morning and night. I do eat healthy most of the time however I also have days where I eat whatever I want. I love beautiful good quality oil for my face that I use morning and night. Whilst I haven’t used it recently – #mumlife – I swear by Ella Bache face tan. Gives you a nice glow and gives a good coverage.
Oh, these are too easy? Ok … let’s get personal.
14. What does self care mean to you?
Getting lots of rest and drinking lots of water when I feel run down. Always wearing lots of suncream and only drinking soft drinks very very rarely (like once a fortnight). I have to nourish my body or I will burn out so remembering to eat will be up there.
15. Leap into the future – describe to us how it looks …
Happy family, house overlooking the beach, lots of travel with amazing company.
16. Inspiration; what makes you go chick chick boom?
Both Adam and I are working really hard now to set ourselves up. It has been a tough 12 months but what is to come is well worth the wait. What drives me is the thought of an amazing future, one where we can have things that we dream of having and a lifestyle that means we can enjoy our family and what this world has to offer and be able to give back.
17. What makes you wet-your-pants happy?
The future. So excited for the things coming up. It is very important to always look to the future and get excited about it. We have so much to look forward to with Emmison. I can’t wait to teach her the things that I was taught and to be kind to people and animals.
18. Do you live by a life motto? If so, do share …
You only get one shot at this life, make the most of it. Put in the hard work early and you will appreciate the benefits.
19. Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to hear …
I can’t handle watching street performers or shows like “funniest home videos” the thought of the unknown or that someone will hurt themselves gives me serious anxiety! I AM SO WEIRD.
and finally …
20. What’s next for you?
I have a couple of ideas in the pipeline… stay tuned. My main focus right now is being a mum. I am absolutely loving it! But no – not another baby for a while!
