The beautiful Charlotte Beckley is such an inspiration to us over here at TMJ. At the young age of 20, she has accomplished so much in her life already. Last year, she had her darling little boy, Theo, with her partner Olli, and has started Fox and Wilder – an online Children’s interior and decor business that is booming. She is a sweet, always smiling, surf mama, who told us about the three power women she’d invite to dinner, burning toast, and her love affair with lemons. Yes, lemons.
Let’s start things easy, and simple …
1. What did you have for breakfast this morning?
For breakfast I had porridge with brown sugar and strawberries, it’s the best!
2. Most enjoyed Winter and Summer beverages?
Hmm. Winter would have to be a hot lemon and honey drink, and summer would be a lemon and soda water. In case you didn’t pick up on it, I’m obsessed with lemon. I’m one of those people that eats it like an apple, skin and all!
3. What three things do you take to your desert island (unfortunately George Clooney isn’t available)?
Woah that’s a hard one! I would take Theo, Olli and food. Lots and lots of it!
4. Describe your style …
Some days I love dressing simple shorts and a plain tee. I’m very neutral colours. Anything black, grey, beige or white!
5. Holiday destination of choice?
I’ve never been overseas so would definitely love to go to the Maldives or Greece! They both look incredible!
Ok, let’s step it up a little …
6. How do you chill out?
Well if Theo is asleep I lay on the sofa, watch Gilmore Girls or whatever TV show I’m currently obsessed with and indulge in chocolate. Or I go to the beach with Theo and we play in the water and the sand. He gets so excited about it so it’s really cute to watch!
7. Something you can’t live without?
I definitely can’t live without Theo and Olli. They complete me in every aspect and make me the person I am today. They are definitely my entire life.
8. You have a dinner party and can invite three people dead or alive, who’s attending?
Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian (don’t hate me) and Kate Middleton. I can literally imagine the conversations that would be had! I reckon it would be hilarious!
9. …and what signature dish do you cook for them? More importantly, does it involve dessert?
I’m the WORST cook. I’d probably make something and burn it! Seriously, I burn toast EVERY.SINGLE.DAY! It’s ridiculous! Does it count if I buy a huge sushi platter and pretend I made it?
10. When you jump on Instagram, which accounts do you look at no matter what?
My fave mamas! That would have to be @oh.eight.oh.nine, @kelly_freestone, @_sophiajames_, @eliseraquel, @misskyreeloves, @indi.and.arch, @sophie_vine, @homeiswherethehartis, @_joanne_mckay.
11. Are you afraid of anything? (we promise we won’t use this against you. Maybe)
Sharks! I know it’s so silly, but even when I surf, if I see so much as a dark shadow I’m outta there! I have a friend who was bitten in the leg, blood everywhere and half a surfboard gone. The feeling is pretty real.
12. Favourite childhood memory?
My favourite childhood memory would definitely have to be my family holidays! My parents are divorced now, but looking back at the holidays there were some serious fun times to be had. We used to go to this resort called Couran Cove in Queensland every year and it was the best! Especially the buffet breakfasts.
13. What are your non negotiable health and beauty routines?
For beauty, this is so easy but for me it’s just the case of removing my makeup before I go to bed! Applying moisturiser and putting a face and hair mask on once a week. I swear by it and it makes me feel so refreshed and ready to take on anything! Also, Frank’s coffee scrub! Best thing is, you can make your partner do it too and force him to take selfies with you.
Oh, these are too easy? Ok … let’s get personal.
14. What does self care mean to you?
Self care for me is so important. I try and make sure I don’t get too stressed with the business and make some “me time” for at least 5 minutes everyday. Even if it’s just looking at my phone or playing with Theo, I try and make sure I take a break, rejuvinate, have something to eat and really refocus my thought process. I love to go for a quick dip in the ocean too. There’s definitely something about it that calms the soul.
15. Leap into the future – describe to us how it looks …
I’m so excited about the future! I’m hoping to finish a course, get a bachelor degree, get the business to a point where it’s doing super super well, own a house, fill it with siblings for Theo and be the best mama I can be! Annual European holidays would be good too.
16. Inspiration; what makes you go chick chick boom?
Theo definitely makes my heart go chick chick boom. He constantly amazes me and there are little things he does that inspire me daily! Fox and Wilder would never have happened without Theo. He’s my constant sunshine! Also Jay Alvarrez. If you don’t know him, look him up! He’s so chick chick boomy (all the heart eyes, don’t tell Olli).
17. What makes you wet-your-pants happy?
Theo, chocolate and surprises from Olli. A good movie, friends and life in general! Plus getting parcels in the mail is pretty up-there.
18. Do you live by a life motto? If so, do share …
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” Eleanor Roosevelt. I love this motto. It reminds me that the future is in my hands. I can choose my own path and I can achieve anything. I had a lot of people tell me my life was over because I had Theo at such a young age, (19). My life has only just begun! I can’t imagine it without him, and he is honestly the dream I was waiting for.
19. Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to hear …
I was born profoundly deaf. My parents didn’t find out until I was 9 months old. I got my first cochlear implant at three years old. It then took me another 6 years to learn how to speak. Today, you wouldn’t even notice I had implants as I cover them up with my hair, (I’m so insecure about them) but I’m trying to overcome that insecurity for Theo. I want him to have a mama who is proud to be who she is, deafness and all! I’m slowly getting there! I keep thinking of ways to explain to Theo that mama sometimes doesn’t hear everything, but that’s ok! I think that because of my deafness, Theo will grow up to have such a widespread knowledge of disability and will have the kindest heart when it comes to differences.
and finally …
20. What’s next for you and your family?
Definitely more kids. I can’t wait to give Theo a sibling! We’re taking each day as it comes, but we’re currently planning our European holiday!
